Celebrating 150 years of GCAB

On Friday 5th and Saturday 6th September GCAB celebrated 150 years and we all had a great time doing so.

On the Friday special guests, our Patron Lord Lieutenant of Gloucestershire Henry Elwes and Dave Heeley, the Blind marathon runner attended to help celebrate the occasion and cut the cake with our Chair Ann Lightfoot.

Saturday’s open day was also a great success with around 80 people coming through the doors to help celebrate. We had a raffle on the day with first prize being a signed Richard Hammond t-shirt and book.

The lucky prize winners were

Signed t-shirt and Book – Dave Whittaker

Bottle of Sherry – Joyce Gilder

Calendar – Jim Baker

Book on 1950’s house keeping – Barbara Carter

The raffle raised a total of £113!

Good luck to everyone who entered our balloon race. Due to the bad weather conditions we delayed the release of the balloons to Wednesday afterwards. In total the balloon race raised £324.

Enthusiastically helped by Stroud MP, David Drew, we collected well over £950 at Waitrose supermarket in Stroud on March 31st. A big thank you to all who helped and to the generosity of the shoppers for making this a very welcome fundraising event. We rely heavily on donations for our income to help us support over 3,000 visually impaired people in Gloucestershire – a job we having been doing passionately since 1858.
