WHO ARE WE? The Gloucestershire County Association for the Blind is an independent charity providing services for visually impaired people in Gloucestershire. WHY SHOULD I COME? We can offer practical assistance and information to help you to cope with your sight problem on a daily basis. We have a large number of items of equipment designed especially to help you. WHO REFERS ME TO COME AND WHERE ARE YOU? You don't need to be referred by anyone. We are open daily between 9am and 4pm, and trained receptionists will show you the equipment, tell you about available services and answer any questions you might have on sight loss. We are on the corner of Albion Street and Grosvenor Terrace in Cheltenham. You are of course welcome to bring someone with you. WHAT SORT OF EQUIPMENT DO YOU HAVE? A large range of items for all degrees of visual impairment covering home, garden, in the kitchen, reading aids, telephones, money, etc., etc. There is also a specially marked kitchen. WILL I HAVE TO BUY SOMETHING? No, not at all - Visitors are welcome just to chat or to browse around. MY SIGHT IS NOT TOO BAD - WOULD I BE A NUISANCE? No. It is better to come sooner rather than later to see what is available. Many people find it useful to know what services and help are there if and when they might need it. WHAT SORT OF INFORMATION DO YOU HAVE? We have information on:- common eye problems local and national support services and specialist associations talking newspapers and books education, employment and financial matters help with mobility issues and getting around easily leisure opportunities and special holiday facilities SUPPOSE I AM UNABLE TO GET TO THE CENTRE? We do have a Visiting Service with Area Co-ordinators who visit REGISTERED, partially sighted and blind people. However, if you are not registered, you are more than welcome to call us and we will try to answer your queries and help with any problems that you might have.
