| GCAB has appointed Celia to be Visual Awareness Advisor with special responsibility for
residential homes, sheltered accommodation and liaising with other
organisations wishing to gain greater awareness of visual impairment.
Her role will be to:

provide a central point of contact to
answer requests for information, advice and training about visual
impairment and its implications for residents and staff in
residential homes;

offer in-house training workshops for
care home staff to raise awareness of the effects of different eye
conditions, promote understanding of the practical issues relating
to visual impairment and suggest ways to overcome problems;

provide advice and visual awareness
training for other people and organisations working with people who
have a sight impairment.

Training workshops will be practically based and
staff encouraged to take part in tasks using simulation spectacles. Sessions
will last 2 hours and it is preferable to have groups of between 5 – 15 people.
Advice is free but there will be a charge for
workshops.
